Taking Just One or a Few Classes

You can take courses without applying for admission to a degree program. If you  are interested in just registering for one or a few classes, there are a few things you should know.

Financial Aid

You cannot receive financial aid if you are not officially admitted in a degree program. Financial aid includes grants and federal student loans. If you are interested in receiving financial aid, you must apply for admission to a degree program.

Semester Schedules

Tompkins Cortland offers classes in fall, winter, spring, and summer terms. The catalog contains scheduling information and descriptions for each course, by type of course and semester.

NOTE: Winter classes are only offered online. Fall, spring, and summer feature online and in-class offerings.

The College accepts cash, check, credit card, or money order for course payments. There is no financial aid available if you are not admitted in a degree program.

Winter Online Session

The College features only online courses during the winter session. Winter session courses are open to everyone – you do not need to be a currently enrolled student. The registration process is the same as for taking one or a few classes during the regular semester.

Financial Aid

There is no financial aid available for the winter session, even if you are a currently enrolled student. Payment must be made by cash, credit card, check, or money order at the time of registration.

Summer Session

The College offers in-class and online courses in the summer session. In-class courses are available at our Dryden campus as well as at the Ithaca and Cortland Extension Centers.

Financial Aid

If you are currently enrolled as a Tompkins Cortland student, financial aid may be available for summer. However, you must contact a financial aid representative ( for details.

If you are not admitted in a degree program at Tompkins Cortland, no financial aid is available.
