TC3.biz Honored by State Organization for Innovative Program
Hospitality Program Recognized
DRYDEN, N.Y. TC3.biz has received the Continuing Education Association of New York (CEANY) James C. Hall Award for Credit Programming. The "TC3.biz Hospitality Certificate Program" was honored as an innovative development of a bridge between noncredit workshops and the College's hotel and restaurant management degree program. It was the only program in the credit category honored by CEANY.
The hospitality certificate program allows participants to take the six-course workshop and earn a noncredit certificate and as many as six college credits in TC3's hotel and restaurant management program, should they decide to pursue a degree. The program was created in 2008 and continues to be offered.
"There are a lot of people working entry level jobs in the hospitality industry who have not considered college," said TC3.biz Director Martha Hubbard. "We see them come for a non-credit workshop and find they are interested in pursuing more education in the field. This gives them a leg up as they start that process."
The program was the result of an ongoing collaboration between TC3.biz and TC3 Hotel and Restaurant Management Program Chair Susan Stafford. It has produced a benefit for the entire program, not just the students taking advantage of the bridge.
"This collaboration with TC3.biz helps not only the students entering the program through the TC3.biz workshops, but all of our students," said Stafford. "The students coming in through the TC3.biz program bring a vital viewpoint on topics we discuss in the classroom. They have worked in the field and offer industry networking and experiential input. The certifications offered by the National Restaurant Association in TC3.biz are extremely important for non-credit and credit students alike."
The next running of the TC3.biz Hospitality Certificate program will be in the spring, with the series of six workshops beginning in March with "Understanding the Nature and Culture of Hospitality." "Business Ethics & Professionalism," "Greater Customer Connections," "Everyday Math and Money Skills," "ServSafe Food Handler in Charge," and "ServSafe Alcohol Service Training" follow, running through the end of April.
The classes can be taken individually or as a series. For more information or to register, call TC3.biz at 607 844 6586.
