Tompkins Cortland Students, Faculty, and Staff Honored by SUNY Chancellor and College Trustees

June 26, 2012

Eleven students, faculty, and staff at Tompkins Cortland Community College have been honored by the SUNY Chancellor, the College's Board of Trustees, and the College's Faculty Student Association.

Students Audrey Lawrence, Nicki Svensson, Sam Trotter, and Aaron Bound were recognized with the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence for their exceptional commitment to academic success, and to enriching not only themselves, but also the campus community. The four have a distinguished record of service to the Tompkins Cortland Community College Student Activities Board, as well as to a variety of clubs and campus services.

In addition to recognition at the College's commencement, the students were invited to a reception with the Chancellor earlier this semester. At the reception, SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher praised the group. "The students we honor today have taken full advantage of the academic and extracurricular programs that SUNY provides both in the classroom and in the community," said Chancellor Zimpher. "These proven leaders, athletes, artists, and civic volunteers truly represent the power of SUNY. I congratulate all of the students being recognized today and thank them for the positive impact each has had on New York State, our university system, and the communities we serve."

The awards for faculty and staff were announced at the College's commencement. Associate Professor Kathleen McDonough and Professor Glenna McMinn were each awarded the Chancellor's/Trustees' Award for Excellence in Teaching; Professor Phil Tate was awarded the Chancellor's/Trustees' Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities; Professor Rick Grossman won the Chancellor's/Trustees' Award for Excellence in Faculty Service; Marilyn Webb was awarded the Chancellor's/Trustees' Award for Excellence in Professional Service; and Institutional Research Assistant Lyn Thompson was awarded the Chancellor's/Trustees Award for Excellence in Classified Service.

"These awards underscore SUNY's appreciation of faculty and staff who serve our campuses and students with absolute excellence," said Chancellor Zimpher. "Kathleen, Glenna, Phil, Rick, Marilyn, Paul, and Lyn have demonstrated extraordinary dedication and service to the College and are highly deserving of this distinction."

The commencement ceremony also included the presentation of the Trustees' Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching to Adjunct English Instructor Paul McCabe and the Faculty Student Association Employee Excellence Award to Recreation Coordinator Alfred Okaru.
