Colleges Secures $25K in SUNY Grants for Local Workforce Training

December 15, 2016

Tompkins Cortland Community College has secured an additional $25,000 in grants from the SUNY Community College Workforce Development Training program. The money will be used for training at two organizations: Borg Warner and Forkey Construction and Fabrication. The grants are the second round of awards from SUNY this year: the College secured $60,000 in grants in the first round earlier this year, providing workforce development training to four other organizations in Tompkins and Cortland counties. The $85,000 total represents the maximum award from SUNY.

The SUNY Workforce Development Training grants are designed to provide workforce development training programs that support the creation and retention of employment opportunities in the state and local community. The training for the local organizations will be done by BIZ, part of Tompkins Cortland Community College’s Corporate and Community Partnerships initiative that offers training programs both for individuals seeking to develop skills and for companies seeking customized training solutions in a variety of areas, including manufacturing, leadership, technology, and customer service.

The grant award recipients, location; grant total; and brief description:
• BorgWarner Morse TEC, Lansing; $12,932; Fostering Employee Engagement as a Supervisor
• Forkey Construction and Fabricating, Inc., Cortland; $12,068; Supervisory Development
